Today was a really fun day. We got up early to go golfing at Hermitage Golf Course, which is on the Northwest side of Nashville. It rained almost the entire time we golfed, but the course was really nice. Luckily, we had our rain gear with us.

Hermitage has two courses (36 holes), with the President’s Reserve Course being the nicest. It is ranked the top public course in the state of Tennessee by Golf Digest magazine. The course is fairly wide open, but it does have a lot of undulation and water hazards, so it is a fairly challenging course.

After golf, we took a Lyft ride back to the condo we are renting to dry off, clean up, and then head out to check out the rest of Nashville. One interesting thing we discovered is that in Nashville, Lyft has been cheaper than Uber. Sometimes it has been significantly cheaper.

I have found that this generally differs by city. I think this would be a great thing to explore and report back on and I plan to write an article about which cities Uber is cheapest generally and which cities are cheapest to use Lyft.

Once we were ready to hit the town, we started our adventure in the neighborhood known as the Gulch. In case you aren’t familiar with this neighborhood, it is the art district of Nashville, much like the Uptown area of Minneapolis, the Soho area of New York, or the East side of Milwaukee.

We really enjoyed walking around this area as there seemed to be a surprise around every corner. We started by grabbing a hot coffee in this little coffee joint named Barista Parlor. The dark chocolate mocha I ordered was fantastic. I have no idea how they do it, but they put this amazing design in the foam of my mocha, which you can see below.

Another really neat shop we checked out was called Chocolate Chocolate. They sell fantastic chocolate that you can sample, as well as other candies. We saw a group go thru on a Nashville eating tour, which sounds like it would be a lot of fun. It’s essentially a walking tour that takes you around to a variety of shops and restaurants to get a taste of Nashville. I’d suggest looking into that if you decide to visit.

The last place in the Gulch neighborhood that we visited that I would like highlight is the Yazoo Brewery. It was here that I got my first taste of what makes Nashville really, really special.

The beer at Yazoo was really great, but the live music was amazing. This is what really sets this city a part and makes it such a unique and incredible place. You have all of these different restaurants and bars that almost constantly have live music playing. Sometimes these joints will have multiple levels with different artists playing at the same time.

At Yazoo, they had small artist after small artist, some with local ties to Nashville and some from across the country, come up to play a few songs. Then they would melt back into the audience only to be replaced by the next artist. It was such a fun experience to sit and listen!
