Today, we left the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and continued our Ring Road adventure by heading into West Iceland. West Iceland is an absolute treasure trove of natural wonders. One of our favorite sights of the day was the incredible Ketubjörg Waterfall. This picturesque cascade tumbles gracefully down a rugged cliffside, surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic rock formations. We were able to hike along some nearby trails and get some breathtaking views of the falls and the surrounding landscape.

Another gem in this region that we enjoyed is the historic Grafarkirkja, a charming church that dates back to the 18th century. Nestled in a tranquil setting, this wooden structure is one of the oldest churches in Iceland and is steeped in rich history and folklore. The church’s simple yet elegant architecture, combined with its picturesque surroundings, makes it a popular destination for those seeking a glimpse into Iceland’s cultural heritage.

Not to be forgotten, we were also absolutely awe-struck by the incredible Hvitserkur Cliff. This striking natural monument along the coastline of West Iceland resembles a giant dragon drinking from the sea. Rising majestically from the ocean, this unique rock formation is a favorite among wildlife enthusiasts, as it serves as a nesting site for various seabirds.
The surrounding area is equally captivating, with rugged cliffs and expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean. We explored the nearby Kálfshamarsvík, a beautiful bay known for its black sand beaches and rich marine life. With all of the stunning views and the abundance of beautiful wildlife, West Iceland has really delivered.
