North Iceland Travel: Experience the Rugged Beauty

After exploring the gorgeous landscapes of West Iceland, today we continued our journey on the iconic Ring Road into the rugged beauty of North Iceland. One of our most memorable experiences of the day was going on a whale watching tour from the city of Husavik. This was one of the best experiences we have had so far on this trip and was an amazing way to explore the stunning North Atlantic.

North Iceland - Whale Watching in Husavik
Whale Watching in Husavik

Known as the whale watching capital of Iceland, Husavik offers a unique opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. As we set sail from the charming harbor, the crisp sea air filled our lungs as the anticipation of seeing some iconic Icelandic wildlife grew.

Our skilled guides shared fascinating insights about the various species we were to look out for, including humpback whales, minke whales, and even the majestic blue whale. It was such an incredible experience to be so close to the Arctic Circle. Without a doubt, it is something I will never forget.

North Iceland - Goðafoss Waterfall

After our marine escapade, we made the short drive to visit the amazing Goðafoss Waterfall. Often referred to as the “Waterfall of the Gods,” Goðafoss is a spectacular sight, with its crescent-shaped cascade pouring over a height of 12 meters. The surrounding landscape, characterized by rugged lava fields and lush greenery, creates a picturesque backdrop that enhances the waterfall’s beauty.

As you stand at the viewing platforms, the roar of the water and the mist that rises from the falls envelop you, making it a perfect spot for photography and reflection. The rich history associated with Goðafoss, tied to the conversion of Iceland to Christianity, adds a layer of cultural significance to this natural wonder.

After a long day exploring North Iceland, we took a little time to relax in the incredible Mývatn Nature Baths. Nestled in the volcanic landscape, these geothermal baths offer a serene escape with their mineral-rich waters, which are known for their therapeutic properties. As we immersed ourselves in the warm, soothing waters, the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lava formations created the ideal, tranquil atmosphere.

That’s it for today’s update. If you would like to see some of the incredible photographs I was able to capture in North Iceland, I have included a gallery for you to review below. Tomorrow we continue our adventure on Iceland’s amazing Ring Road. Until then, safe travels!
