The conditions were almost perfect this weekend for some spectacular sunsets up North in Door County, Wisconsin, so I decided to take an impromptu Door County getaway trip this weekend.
If you aren’t familiar with Wisconsin, Door County is the peninsula that extends into Lake Michigan to the North of the city of Green Bay.
My destination was my favorite state park on Door County, if not all of Wisconsin, Peninsula State Park. I included a map below so that you can see exactly where I headed.
When I got to Door County, I was surprised by the massive amount of snow they have gotten. I did some hiking when I got to the park and the snow is up to my waist in some spots along the trail. I am 6’2″, so that is quite a bit of snow. I forgot my snow shoes too, so it was some tough hiking at times.
There are several spots along the sunset trail within the park that I have been wanting to get some good sunset shots at, but haven’t been able to because of poor cloud conditions. The trail follows the lake and there are some absolutely stunning spots to stop at.
As predicted, conditions were perfect tonight and I got some spectacular sunset shots. The shot below just might be my favorite. You can really tell how much snow they have gotten in this picture as well as the two benches in the shot are almost buried in snow.
After getting some great Sunset shots, I headed to nearby Fish Creek to grab dinner. Fish Creek is a really neat little town that has a lot of character. My favorite restaurant in Fish Creek is undoubtedly the Blue Horse Beach Cafe, pictured below.
The restaurant and coffee shop has great food, great coffee, and a really neat atmosphere. Perfect spot to unwind after a long hike and picture taking.
I am going to be spending the night in the area so that I can get up and get some great sunrise shots in the morning. I checked the sunsetwx website and there are is a good sunrise predicted for the Door County area tomorrow. I included the sunrise prediction map for Wisconsin below if you would like to review it.
That’s it for tonight. If I get some good sunrise shots tomorrow, I will be sure to post them to social media. I am going to be heading to the same spot on the other side of the peninsula that I stopped at last year and saw some epic waves. Hopefully it isn’t as icy near the lake edge as last year.
Wonderful photos! Thank you for sharing!
Love Door County, though I’ve only ever been in the summer. Beautiful shots. Too bad you forgot your snowshoes – that’s deep snow!!
Thank you!! Yeah, it was no fun hiking without the snow shoes 😀

Interesting weekend to visit as I believe it was ‘National Wisconsin Day’ over the weekend. Anyway, love the photos! There’s so much snow!
Thanks Jason! I didn’t know that so you taught me something new 😀👍
A fav place of mine! Granted, I go in the summer 😉
I usually do too. Totally different world in the winter 😀
