In this edition of my countdown of the top United States travel destinations, I am going to cover items 41-50 on my list. There are some fantastic places to add to your United States travel bucket list on here, some of which are lesser-known travel treasures. Peru is a beautiful and amazing country, and its capital city of Lima is no exception. This stunning coastal capital is the fifth largest city in South America and one of the continent’s most beautiful capitals. Even though Lima is located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, most people aren’t aware that the city is located in a desert. In fact, Lima is the second-largest desert city in the world after Cairo, Egypt in Africa. One-third of Peru’s population lives in Lima, which also makes it one of the busiest cities in South America.
Consisting of 117 known caves, the biggest of which spans roughly 8 acres and is the largest accessible cave chamber in North America, Carlsbad Caverns is one of the most unique landscapes in the American National Parks system. In addition to being an amazing landscape, the national park is also home to some fantastic wildlife.
The most notable wildlife residents are the parks many species of bats. There are 17 species of bats found in the park and they all live within the caverns. In fact, the park was initially discovered by a young cowboy named Jim White when he saw a large group of bats leaving the caverns back in 1903.
There are a lot of amazing adventures to be had on New Zealand’s South Island. Milford Sound and the Milford Track is something that every traveler should experience, the city of Wanaka is home to quite a few of New Zealand’s most infamous hiking tracks, and the city of Queenstown is known across the globe as the “adventure capital of the world”. However, none of these adventure locations in New Zealand are quite as unique or as special as the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers on the west coast of the South Island.
In this article, I am going to provide you with ten of the top ways in which I think travelers can give back to the local communities they visit when they travel. There are a lot of incredibly beautiful places on New Zealand’s South Island, but few other places on the island can match the number of incredible hikes and visa viewpoints that you will find in the Wanaka area. Located on the shores of Lake Wanaka, which sits just at the foot of the stunning mountains of Mount Aspiring National Park, the city could not have been placed in a more beautiful area. This is why travelers from around the world flock to New Zealand each year to enjoy the beautiful views and amazing hikes in and around this wonderful city.

There are some amazing wine destinations around the world and the Central Otago Valley on New Zealand’s South Island is definitely one of them. It is the world’s southernmost commercial wine regions and with the Southern Alps as a backdrop, it is also one of the world’s prettiest. The region is known for its stellar Pinot noirs, but there are many white wines that are popular in the region as well.
The area surrounding the city of Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island is known for its incredible hiking tracks. After all, with two of the South Island’s prettiest lakes and the stunning Mount Aspiring National Park right at the doorstep, the landscapes in the area are beyond fantastic. When it comes to these incredible hiking tracks, the infamous Roy’s Peak Track gets most of the attention.
However, many people that visit the Wanaka area don’t realize that there is an equally incredible hike located on the north side of Wanaka as well. While it doesn’t get nearly the amount of publicity that the Roy’s Peak Track gets, the Isthmus Track delivers equally exceptional views and typically has far smaller crowds to contend with than Roy’s Peak.
