Embarking on a whale watching tour in Húsavík, Iceland, offers an unforgettable opportunity to witness whales in their natural habitat. Known as the whale watching capital of Europe, Húsavík is perfectly situated along the Skjálfandi Bay, where nutrient-rich waters attract a diverse array of marine life.
Like they say, all good things must come to an end. Today was the last day of our incredible Ring Road adventure. However, we may have saved the best for last as Southwest Iceland certainly delivered. One of our favorite stops during the day was to the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. This stunning beach is renowned for its dramatic black sands, which contrast beautifully with the white surf of the Atlantic Ocean.
Today, we start the home stretch on our Iceland Ring Road adventure. After spending yesterday exploring the East Fjords, today we headed into Southeast Iceland to explore some of the country’s most beautiful scenery. One of my very favorite stops today was at the incredible Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon. This magnificent canyon, carved by glacial meltwater over thousands of years, features steep, moss-covered walls that rise dramatically from the river below.
Today, we completed our trip across Iceland and will finish our exploration of the northern part of the country. Northeast Iceland is a treasure trove of natural wonders, and it certainly did not disappoint. One of our favorite spots that we visited in our explorations of the area was the incredible Arctic Henge. This monumental structure, inspired by ancient Norse mythology, is designed to align with the sun’s movements, creating a mystical atmosphere that draws visitors from around the globe.
After exploring the gorgeous landscapes of West Iceland, today we continued our journey on the iconic Ring Road into the rugged beauty of North Iceland. One of our most memorable experiences of the day was going on a whale watching tour from the city of Husavik. This was one of the best experiences we have had so far on this trip and was an amazing way to explore the stunning North Atlantic.
Today, we left the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and continued our Ring Road adventure by heading into West Iceland. West Iceland is an absolute treasure trove of natural wonders. One of our favorite sights of the day was the incredible Ketubjörg Waterfall. This picturesque cascade tumbles gracefully down a rugged cliffside, surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic rock formations. We were able to hike along some nearby trails and get some breathtaking views of the falls and the surrounding landscape.
Today we started our drive on Iceland’s infamous Ring Road. The first area that we will be exploring along this iconic route is the incredible Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Often referred to as “Iceland in Miniature,” it is a captivating destination that showcases the diverse beauty of the country. This remarkable region is home to a stunning array of landscapes, from dramatic volcanic craters and rugged coastlines to serene fishing villages and lush green valleys.
On our second day in Iceland, we departed Reykjavík to explore the Golden Circle. This is one of the most iconic routes in Iceland and has been on my travel bucket list for quite some time.
After flying overnight, we were glad when we were finally arriving in Iceland this morning to start our big adventure. We spent part of the day exploring the capital city of Reykjavík and then visited the iconic Blue Lagoon to relax and shake off the jet lag. Reykjavík is a charming city renowned for its vibrant houses, lively street art, and welcoming atmosphere. We were very grateful for the warmth and hospitality we were shown.
After spending a few days exploring the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, I took a short trip to Uruguay today to see the amazing city of Colonia. Nestled along the banks of the serene Río de la Plata, this quant colonial settlement is renowned for its picturesque cobblestone streets, pastel-hued buildings, and abundance of architectural gems from the Portuguese and Spanish eras.
