We all have a bucket list of things that we would like to do or see before we die. Getting around to actually doing these things or seeing these places is another matter, but we all have a list. I thought it would be fun to share with you my 2018 travel bucket list (at least as it stands right now) and hear from you on what locations you are anxious to see. The following list includes the places that I would really love to visit and why. Let me know which places you are excited about!
Torres del Paine National Park
Patagonia has been a dream destination of mine since I was a kid. This vast wilderness is one of the most beautiful areas in the world. The huge, jagged mountains and crystal blue lakes seem to call my name. Patagonia is a big area, and much of it is beautiful. However, Torres Del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia is especially scenic. It would be amazing to plan a visit to do some hiking, photography, and general exploration. Definitely on the top of my list of places to see.
Antarctica Cruise
Antarctica is such an amazing and beautiful place, but it is also very difficult and costly to get to. I guess that is part of the allure for me. Seeing icebergs the size of skyscrapers, as well all of the amazing wildlife that calls Antarctica their home, would be amazing. However, for me, the bigger lure is the fact that it is a place that not many people get to. Visiting Antarctica comes with a sense of adventure you can’t really match when traveling to many other places in the world these days.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a place that I will hopefully get to cross off this list this year. It’s a magical place that I cannot wait to visit. The Andes Mountains are spectacular, and the remains of this ancient city perched upon its peaks are breathtaking. I cannot wait to get some epic photographs, and with a place this beautiful, that shouldn’t be that hard. It will also be my first time to South America, and I am very excited about that!

The Himalayas
What can I say about the Himalayas that a picture cannot express a thousand times better? Just look at those peaks. If you love mountains, the Himalayas are the gold standard. The Himalayas are the home of many of this world’s tallest peaks, including the highest peak, Mount Everest. I am not a mountaineer, so I don’t think there is an Everest climb in my future, but it would be fantastic to visit Nepal and see the Himalayas first-hand.
Safari in India
When it comes to safaris, Africa gets most of the attention. Yet India, the country that inspired the Jungle Book, has some absolutely fantastic safari opportunities of its own. Like Africa, you can see lions (the Asiatic variety), leopards, rhinoceros (the Asian, one-horned variety), elephants (the Asiatic variety), and buffalo. However, unlike Africa, you can also see tigers and snow leopards. It would be absolutely amazing to see a tiger in its natural habitat, and that is why going on safari in India is high on my 2018 travel bucket list.
Cappadocia
There are few places in this world as unique and as mystifying as Cappadocia, Turkey. The landscape alone is fantastic, with all of the dwellings built into the rock formations that litter the countryside. Add to that all of the hot air balloons that launch over Cappadocia daily, and this is a fantasy world that I am desperate to visit.
Orangutans in Bhutan
In the coming years, I hope to be able to do some volunteer work with the conservation of orangutans in Bhutan. It would be hugely rewarding to be able to assist, first-hand, in making sure these close relatives of ours are around in the wild for the foreseeable future. Being able to volunteer in a beautiful country like Bhutan would be the cherry on top.
Siem Reap
I have yet to travel to Asia, so there is still so much that I would like to see there. Siem Reap is near the top of that list. Cambodia is a beautiful country, and no region is more so than Angkor region. One of the things I am most excited to see in Siem Reap is Angkor Wat. This ancient temple is a wonder of the world. It’s unique and beautiful architecture is something to behold, and I would love to be able to explore it.
Bali
If there is a more beautiful tropical paradise in this world than Bali, I would like to know about it. This Indonesian Island is stunning. In addition to the beautiful beaches, it has some beautiful forested volcanic mountains to explore. It is also home to the unique and amazing cliff-side Uluwatu Temple, which I very much want to see. I would love to spend some time exploring and getting to know this amazing island.
Safari in Loango
I have been on safari in Tanzania, and I am hooked. There is nothing more exhilarating than seeing some of this world’s most amazing animals in their natural habitats. And when it comes to safaris, Africa is king. The next place I would like to go on safari in Africa is the Loango National Park in Gabon.
In addition to being able to see lions, elephants, and giraffes on safari again, Loango has some absolutely stunning ocean coastline. This coastline is frequently used by animals such as elephants and hippos to bath, which would be amazing to see. Loango is also home to the critically endangered lowland gorilla, which is very high on my list to see in the wild.
The Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands is another destination that I hope to be able to cross off of my 2018 travel bucket list this year. The Galapagos Islands have fascinated us since I was really young and heard the stories about Charles Darwin’s studies there. From the giant tortoises to the amazing marine life that surrounds the islands, I can’t wait to get there and start exploring!
The Amazon Rain Forest
There is no place on Earth with more biodiversity than the Amazon Rain Forest, and that is exactly why I want to visit. There are so many unique and interesting plant and animal species that I would like to see in their natural habitat. Beyond that, the Amazon Rain Forest is such a stunning and beautiful place. I would love to be able to explore it.
Your Bucket List
I have shared with you what my top 2018 travel bucket list destinations are, now I would like to hear from you. What are your top bucket list locations? What places do you really want to start exploring? What adventures do you want to go on?
Beautiful photos! Galapagos is at the top of my list. Now, I have a few more places to add to my list. 😉 Thanks.
No problem! Thanks for reading 😀
Antarctica is also on my bucket list! But Faroe Islands are nr 1.
Faroe Islands is another great destination!! SO many places I want to see. Thanks for the comment Dalene!
We plan to bike through tulips in the Netherlands soon and maybe explore Peru later this year. I’d like to see the Australian outback and New Zealand.
Great bucket list destinations Eilene! Biking thru the Netherlands sounds amazing, as does the Australian outback!
I agree about Nepal! I’m definitely not doing Everest but there is so much more to the allure! Greece is also a huge want for me 🙂
I totally agree on there being so much more allure to Nepal than just Everest. Such a beautiful country and fascinating culture that I want to learn more about. Greece is another great bucket list destination for sure!
Awesome!
Thanks Tyler!
Siem Reap is awesome! Definitely take a trip to Cambodia! I’m desperate to go to Antarctica for the same reasons – it’s not ‘expected’ to go there. But it’s so expensive! So unfortunately that will have to be in a few years time for me…
Now I want to go to Siem Reap even more! Thank you for the input! I totally hear you on how expensive Antarctica is. It is a trip that is going to have to wait a while for me as well. One day…. 🙂
my next travel blog post will be on Angkor Wat and Siem Reap, then after that Pnomh Penh and Sihanoukville, as I’m making my way through my time in South East Asia
Outstanding!! I will have to check those out.
Oh, and have fun and safe travels!
I have to say that most everything on your bucket list is on mine as well! We will be ticking off the Torres del Paine item very soon. Final preparations are now being made.
Awesome!! So excited for you !!!
Planning a trip like this has consumed so much of our time, not to mention, we keep changing our route. 🙂
I totally know what you mean. We are planning our Machu Picchu and Galapagos trip right now and it has been an exercise in logistics.
I think what is making our planning so laborious is that we are undertaking it during shoulder season and finding that transportation in the more remote areas is a bit lacking after the peak season. Not to mention that I have had some difficulty getting responses to my emails for some bookings. But that is all part of the adventure, right? 🙂
Exactly!! It’s all part of the adventure indeed! I am sooooo looking forward to hearing about your trip! 😀
Thanks Josh!
Wow! A lot of the places you mention are on our bucket list too. We have been to Machu Picchu and the experience was like nothing else in the world. I would also like to take an Antarctica cruise; some of them include the fjords of Chile and Torres del Paine NP. I’ve been in the Amazon but want to take a cruise – Viking offers one we are interested in. Also the Galapagos.
We just got back from a safari in Tanzania – what an incredible experience! It was our first trip to Africa, our 4th continent. Next is probably Asia – I would like to visit China, Turkey, Japan and Cambodia/Malaysia. We’re going to Israel next January, so I guess that is in Asia! We’re also going to Egypt, another of my bucket list countries. I also want to see Europe more thoroughly, visit Berlin (I’ve never been there), take a river cruise, visit Prague and Budapest, and Mont St. Michel, an island off the north coast of France near Normandy. We’ll probably get there next year. Oh, and also Norway up too the Arctic Circle.
I also want to visit all 50 states in the U.S. (I have 9 left, my husband has been in all 50!) and he wants to go to British Columbia by train. Lots of places to go – I hope we’ll make it to them all!
WOW!! I love your list!! I agree with you on Tanzania. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I am looking forward to hearing about your adventures!
South America is definitely moving it’s way up my list! Patagonia looks beautiful!
Fantastic list of places to inspire adventures. Many of these I want to visit too. On my list for this year are Shanghai, Florida and Mexico … hopefully 🙂
Thanks! Love your list! I have been to Florida and Mexico. Beautiful destinations. Shanghai is another one I would LOVE to see!
Fairly awesome list!
Thank you so much!
My partner and I ran an adventure group for 12 years where we organised trips and adventures that were on most people’s bucket lists, it was so much fun. My partner is currently climbing Mt Everest, that’s his ultimate goal!
WOW!! That is amazing! Sounds like my dream job. And what an adventure climbing Everest would be! Thank you for sharing! 😀😀
