African Chinstrap Penguin
Boulders Beach, South Africa
I don’t know about you, but one of the last things that comes to my mind when I think about Africa is penguins. Believe it or not, the continent of Africa really is home to these cold-water speed machines. If you travel to the southern tip of South Africa, to a little beach on the coast of False Bay known as Boulders Beach, you will find an absolutely adorable colony of Chinstrap Penguins frolicking in the cold waters and sunning themselves on the large rocks and sand.
These African chinstrap penguins may seem out of place in Africa, but the cold Antarctic waters allow them to thrive here. Actually, they aren’t even the most Northern colony of penguins in the world. That distinction belongs to another colony of penguins that I have seen in my travels, located in the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador.
Seeing penguins in Africa was certainly one of my most unique travel experiences. What was one of the most unique experiences that you have had during your travels?
