Looking back on my Southern Utah road trip, I’m sharing the itinerary, planning decisions, and lessons learned that helped make it a success. From hidden gems to iconic viewpoints, this guide will help you plan your own unforgettable adventure through one of America’s most scenic regions.
Southern Utah is one of the most breathtaking regions of the United States. With five beautiful national parks, many national monuments, and incredible state parks, it’s full of beauty. In fact, there are so many incredible things to see that it is hard to know where to start. That is why I have put together this list of the top 15 most amazing Southern Utah attractions that visitors should plan to see. By using this list to plan your trip, you can be sure not to miss any of Southern Utah’s top sights.
If you love outdoor adventure, then you will love all of the activities and sights that are outlined in my Capitol Reef National Park Guide. While some of the other national parks in Southern Utah may get more attention on tourist sites, any hardcore national parks enthusiast will tell you that Capitol Reef National Park is a hidden gem in the US National Parks system.
While Arches and Canyonlands draw most visitors to Moab, the Corona Arch hike remains one of the region’s true hidden gems. Close to town, easy to reach, and accessible for most hikers, it’s quickly becoming a local favorite—especially since the arch itself is every bit as big and beautiful as the famous Delicate Arch inside Arches National Park.
My trip to the American West and Southwest is fast approaching and I have been very busy putting together a detailed itinerary for our trip. There are no flights or hotels involved in this trip, so you would think the planning process would be easier. On the contrary, I have found that the logistics of planning a cross-country camping road trip are even more complex than planning your typical fly-and-stay vacation. Add to that the complexities of the COVID-19 situation and it has been a very interesting travel planning exercise.

The next epic road trip in my five-part series is an amazing trip thru the American Southwest. The Southwest is one of the most unique and beautiful areas of the United States, and undoubtedly my favorite part of the country. With breathtaking canyons, beautiful forests, and stunning desert landscapes, the canyon region of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona is an absolute must-see for any outdoor enthusiast.
If you love rough and beautiful landscapes, then Canyonlands National Park should be near the top of your list of places to visit. Within this visitor’s guide, I will outline all of the information you will need to make your visit to Canyonlands National Park a success.
