Elephant Traffic Jam in Kruger
Kruger National Park, South Africa
There are many different parks to go on safari in Africa in many different countries. The safari experience at each park is unique and wonderful in its own way. During our recent trip to Africa last month, I was fortunate enough to go on a safari in one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife parks. Kruger National Park in South Africa is infamous for having one of the highest densities of wildlife on the continent.
Partly because of its large amount of wildlife, but also because of the park’s rich history of strong conservation practices, going on a safari in Kruger National Park was extra special for me. It is one of the best places in Africa to see wild rhinoceros, is home to one of the highest concentrations of wild African lions, is one of the few remaining strongholds of the African painted dog, and has some of the largest elephants that you will see in all of Africa.
One of the things that I most enjoyed about the park is the amount of wildlife that we saw utilizing the park roads. On more than one occasion, we saw large elephants just walking down the side of the road. This may seem unique to you and me, but for those who live around Kruger, it is just another day in the park. This big guy held up traffic for a while, but no one seemed to mind as cars pulled to the side and just admired the moment for what it was. A brilliant wildlife sighting in one of the world’s most iconic wildlife parks.
What is a wildlife sighting that you have experienced in your travels that really sticks out in your mind?
