The Breathtaking Knysna Heads

Garden Route, South Africa

Instagram Travel Photography - Knysna Heads

With over 185 miles (300km) of breathtaking coastline, South Africa’s Garden Route is one of Africa’s most beautiful places. It gets its name from the rich, green forests, incredible streams, rivers, and waterfalls that are abundant in the area. There is a reason why the Garden Route consistently ranks among the most beautiful coastlines in the world. It’s just drop-dead gorgeous.

One of my favorite spots to visit along the Garden Route is the gorgeous coastal city of Knysna. The Knysna Heads viewpoint allows one to get a bird’s eye view of the city’s amazing lagoon where the Knysna River empties into the Indian Ocean. The entire Garden Route is breathtaking, but I was especially mesmerized by just how beautiful the view was from this viewpoint.

If you look closely at the picture, you can also see the stunning Eastern Heads Beacon. In addition to assisting ships in navigating the channel, this light is also one of the more beautiful lights that I have seen, with a rocky perch that really makes it a beautiful subject to photograph.

What is your favorite spot in South Africa’s famed Garden Route?
