Peru is a beautiful and amazing country, and its capital city of Lima is no exception. This stunning coastal capital is the fifth largest city in South America and one of the continent’s most beautiful capitals. Even though Lima is located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, most people aren’t aware that the city is located in a desert. In fact, Lima is the second-largest desert city in the world after Cairo, Egypt in Africa. One-third of Peru’s population lives in Lima, which also makes it one of the busiest cities in South America.
Consisting of 117 known caves, the biggest of which spans roughly 8 acres and is the largest accessible cave chamber in North America, Carlsbad Caverns is one of the most unique landscapes in the American National Parks system. In addition to being an amazing landscape, the national park is also home to some fantastic wildlife.
The most notable wildlife residents are the parks many species of bats. There are 17 species of bats found in the park and they all live within the caverns. In fact, the park was initially discovered by a young cowboy named Jim White when he saw a large group of bats leaving the caverns back in 1903.
There are a lot of amazing adventures to be had on New Zealand’s South Island. Milford Sound and the Milford Track is something that every traveler should experience, the city of Wanaka is home to quite a few of New Zealand’s most infamous hiking tracks, and the city of Queenstown is known across the globe as the “adventure capital of the world”. However, none of these adventure locations in New Zealand are quite as unique or as special as the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers on the west coast of the South Island.
In this article, I am going to provide you with ten of the top ways in which I think travelers can give back to the local communities they visit when they travel. These suggestions range from easy to do tasks such as frequenting local establishments to more involved tasks such as traveling to perform community services. Whatever you decide to do to give back, you can be assured that your efforts will be appreciated by the local communities you visit around this world that need your help.
