LAST UPDATED: 5/3/26 – Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay Trip
It had been far too long since I had explored the beautiful continent of South America, which is why I was so excited when I finally returned in the fall of 2024. Before the journey began, I had officially started planning my Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay trip and wanted to share some of the details with other travelers preparing for something similar. As I worked through the logistics, I documented the process so others could benefit from what I learned.

In this Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay trip update post, I outlined all of the destinations that I visited during the trip. I also discussed the logistics of how I moved from one destination to the next. Where applicable, I described the different tours that I ended up using in several of these destinations.

Rio de Janeiro

The first stop on my Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay trip was the iconic city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I arrived in the city early on the morning of Day 2 and spent the next two full days exploring everything it had to offer. Of course, I made sure to visit Christ the Redeemer (another Wonder of the World checked off the list!), Sugarloaf Mountain, and the city’s renowned beaches. Capturing some epic sunrise and sunset shots of this beautiful city was one of the things I had looked forward to most—and it absolutely delivered.
The Amazon Rainforest

After spending two incredible days exploring Rio, I hopped on a quick flight north to the city of Manaus, Brazil. There, at the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest, I began the second segment of my Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay trip.
I had booked a multi‑day, overnight tour in the Amazon Rainforest to experience this remarkable wildlife destination up close. I ended up swimming with pink river dolphins, fishing for piranha, and searching for caiman on a night safari. It was an unforgettable experience—one I had eagerly anticipated and that absolutely lived up to the excitement.
The Iguazu Falls

The next segment of my planned trip was one I had been looking forward to for years. If you followed my blog closely, then you already knew how obsessed I was with waterfalls. Everything about them fascinated me.
I had made it a mission to visit the world’s most incredible waterfalls, and the iconic Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina was certainly one of them. I flew into the city of Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, and then spent two days exploring both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides of the falls.
Buenos Aires

After spending a few days exploring one of the world’s most incredible waterfalls, the next leg of my Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay trip took me further into Argentina. I hopped on a very short flight to the amazing city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I spent the remainder of my trip exploring. I toured the city extensively, as well as the nearby Tigre Delta. It was an incredible experience to explore one of South America’s most popular destinations.
Colonia del Sacramento

On the final full day of my trip, my original plan had been to take a full‑day excursion to Montevideo, Uruguay. I had expected to take a boat across the bay from Buenos Aires to Montevideo and enjoy a grand tour of the city before wrapping up my time in South America.
However, after receiving several excellent recommendations from fellow travelers and locals—many of whom emphasized the cultural significance, charm, and beauty of Colonia del Sacramento—I decided to adjust my plans. Instead of heading to Montevideo, I visited Colonia del Sacramento, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. Wandering its historic streets, exploring its UNESCO‑listed old town, and experiencing its slower, more atmospheric vibe made for a memorable finale to my trip.
While I didn’t make it to Montevideo this time, I was glad I could still spend a meaningful day in Uruguay. I’ll just need to return someday to explore even more.
